Vision And Mission

Ummannur Grama Panchayat is a green and agriculturally rich hilly area in Kottarakkara Taluk of Kollam District. As a rural Grama Panchayat, this Panchayat has a clear vision and mission to improve the living standards of the people and ensure sustainable development. These can be explained as follows:

1. Vision

The main vision is to transform Ummannur Grama Panchayat into a 'model green village' that is physically, socially and economically self-sufficient.

  • Agricultural Self-Sufficiency: To make Ummannur a completely food self-sufficient village by combining traditional farming methods with modern technologies.

  • Sustainable Development: To implement development activities in a manner that does not harm the environment by conserving natural resources and water bodies.

  • Quality of Life: To provide a better living environment for all sections of the population, including the poor and marginalized, by ensuring housing, clean water, good health and education.

  • Digital & Transparent Governance: To become a people-friendly digital village that provides panchayat services to the people in a fast and transparent manner.

2. Mission

The main objectives and activities undertaken and implemented by the panchayat to realize the above vision include:

Revitalization of the agricultural sector

  • Provide subsidies and modern machinery to farmers to expand cultivation of paddy, pepper, coconut and vegetables.

  • Effective utilization of all agricultural lands through the Fallow-Free Village Project.

Infrastructure Development

  • Renovation of rural roads in the hinterland and improvement of transport facilities.

  • Provide uninterrupted supply of drinking water and electricity to all households.

Social Welfare and Health

  • Upgrade the quality of Primary Health Centers (PHC) and provide free treatment and medicines to the people.

  • Provide safe shelter for the homeless through schemes like Life Mission.

  • Further strengthen Kudumbashree initiatives for women empowerment and create self-employment opportunities.

Education and Sports

  • Strengthen the general education sector by providing hi-tech facilities in government/aided schools.

  • Establish playgrounds and cultural centers to develop the athleticism and creativity of the youth.

Waste Management and Environmental Protection

  • As part of the 'Malinyamuktam Navakerala' project, collect inorganic waste properly through Harithakarma Sena and promote source-based waste management.

  • Revitalize water bodies and promote plantation by utilizing the Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

In short: The paramount goal of this panchayat is to ensure equal justice and development for every citizen of Ummannur Grama Panchayat along with the creation of a new Kerala, while maintaining its unique rural beauty and agricultural culture.
