Ummannoor Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for managing the administrative affairs of Panchayat Raj institutions. In Grama Panchayat, it is the primary committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and handles day-to-day administration. They are responsible for the policy formulation and development planning of the Panchayat. The President is the Chief Executive Authority of the Panchayat and chairs the meetings of the governing body and exercises general administrative supervision over the Panchayat. In the absence of the President, the Vice President discharges these duties. Standing Committees are formed to facilitate easier decision-making in matters such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

Ummannur Panchayat is a rural village located about 12 km from Kottarakkara in Kollam district, surrounded by lush green paddy fields, fertile hilly areas and rocky outcrops. Ummannur Panchayat has the most diverse landforms among the six panchayats in Vettikkavala block. Ayur is located two km from the boundary of Ummannur Panchayat. This village belongs to the Ilayidhu Swarupa, which was part of the old kingdom. The then ruler came to know through his spies that three sages were practicing penance in the forest area in the southern part of the country for ages. He appointed five of his most trusted Brahmin elders to look after their welfare and welfare.
